Art Appreciation: Untitled by Ambit Mendoza

Started to appreciate them again on my birthday week, so Level 4 SM Megamall is where my feet led me.

Let's start with Ambit Mendoza. She opened her first solo exhibit last November 23, Untitled, which showcases oil-based, bonsai-inspired paintings. The exhibit also displays bonsais of various bonsai artist including Mangyan Bonsai. Exhibit will run until December 4.

Enjoy photos below, both of her paintings and the bonsais.

Nice poster right?

This was my first picture from afar and it made me feel giddy.

I am trying to capture both the paintings and the bonsais but you'd get confused where to look first. Both are eye candies.

See, I am a noob when it comes to bonsai. I know almost nothing. But I would love to learn more.

Your eyes are not playing tricks on you. This is a healthy, I suppose, bonsai. Might look dead from someone who doesn't know anything but it's as alive as I am.

I have included the bonsai below that I think was the inspiration for this painting. Not a fan of oil (because texture) but these paintings are not the ones I expected. I guess I have to brush up on arts too.

Yes, the bonsai below the painting is not the same one used as the model but have you thought of a bonsai with a lone flower that blooms as colorful as that? No? Me too.

These two looks better and lovely in person than in pictures. I have to take several shots individually. (I love the painting above more).

See the common denominator in all her paintings? They're all in a glass dome. My take? To preserve the beauty that is.

This shot was taken from outside the gallery. I can't get a better picture that would capture the beauty of the painting and how these two bonsai seems to be watching the painting.

How? For us to know. This is Mangyan Bonsai's creation.

I intentionally took the picture from that angle. I appreciate it more than gazing at the painting upfront. Windswept - the style, that much I know.

Bonsai comes in different shapes and sizes. Will write a blog about it one of these days.

This. Is. Beauty. How? Why? The idea. Zoom in.

This picture was suppose to emphasize that chunk-of-a-naked-skinned-bonsai. See it in person, I know this picture didn't give it justice.

This!!! Next picture please.

See? Painting. Bonsai. How the imaginative mind of the artist made it work, look like a big tree. There was a story behind the girl listening to the melody. Check Ambit's FB please. Also, I love them both in that corner.

It's alive. Believe me. #BonsaiKnowledge

This too, melts my heart. See the bonsai? The painting? Told you, paintings are bonsai-inspired.

Justice not served. I know. Please look for this when you visit the exhibit. Runs until Dec. 4. (Shameless plug, yeah, I know).

Yes, bonsai comes in different shapes and sizes. Cute. But again, P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E.

I have to take a picture of the gallery, outside looking in, in three parts. Left.

Center. Featuring Lola (not my Lola though).

Right.

And this panorama view of the bonsais and paintings. I was not able to include the paintings on the left part of the gallery though. Again, BESTEST to see them live.

Rest of the pictures will be uploaded on my Facebook page.
